McFarland Plaza, Tuscaloosa, AL

Welcome to Plazas, a new series on my blogger. Your familiar with the concept of a "dead mall" correct? Well, what about a "dead plaza"? That's what this series is all about.

In this post, we're taking a look at the former McFarland Plaza in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

900 Skyland Blvd #53, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405

Starting off this plaza tour from right to left, your immediately greeted with this empty lot...

...Which was originally a Dillard's department store

I'm not sure if these stores are common outside of malls, but I feel like they aren't

The next building after that was formally a Goody's store (the building itself kind of looks like a movie theater, no?)

This is a photo of the store when it was still open

Next to that is Dollar Tree, which is the only tenant in the entire plaza that's still open, believe it or not

The space next to that was a building that originally started out as a Woolco, but was later Zayre.

The original Woolco architecture is still in place

After Zayre closed the building was never taken up by Ames, a few different tenants came and went over the years but the last tenants here were Shoe Station and Micheal's crafts

Micheal's moved to a new location in the McFarland Plaza (a different plaza which seems to be doing well, unlike this one)

There's still some signage inside of the Michael's store. I'm not sure if its the Michael's sign, or the one for shoe station.

I'm not sure what this was

This building here, which was an outparcel, originally started out as a Books-A-Million store

Old photo of the store before it closed

The other outparcel in the lot was Chili's

The entire plaza has since been torn down, except for Dollar Tree, which yes, is still open to this day. The Goody's store is in the picture, but it looks like it's also in the process of demolition
