Former Venture Store, Orland Park, IL

Former Venture, Orland Park, IL 15701 71st Ct, Orland Park, IL 60462 Doesn't seem like an old Venture store at first glace, But I can assure you, that it was Meijer did some painting over the building But most of the original Venture architecture is still in place The front of the store even still has the original stripes The building isn't painted black & white anymore, but you can still tell that it used to be Out with the old and in with the new Even if the old still shines through at times And yes, thats a Venture labelscar thats still showing, even with Meijer taking over and operating out of the building Edit: Thanks to the radio station Q98.5 for making a similar post on their website and giving me a small shoutout (lol) If you look to the bottom of their post there I am :) Thanks for reading All images are from Google Maps / Google Street View. Dairy Mart the history, and what's left " Good People, It Must Be Dairy Mart !" Anyone remember Dairy Mart? No? I'd be kind of surprised if you did. From the 3rd largest convenience store chain in the U.S. behind 7-Eleven and Circle K, to pretty much nothing but an obscure, vague memory... what happened? Here's a brief history since there isn't really much left from this company; Dairy Mart began in 1957 when Charles Nirenberg (pictured here) opened his first store in the state of Massachusetts Throughout the 80's Dairy Mart began to quickly expand by acquiring other, smaller, convenience store chains, such as Sunnybrook Farms (who had 63 stores). Their biggest acquisition however, came in 1984 In 1975, U.S. based convenience store chain Lawson's opened their first store in Japan, they decided to operate there exclusively, selling all of their U.S. stores to Dairy Mart in 1984. Walmart, 929 S Pine St, Vivian, LA 71082 Date of image: 2021 Store still open: yes This is one of the oldest operating Walmart stores that I have ever seen. You can even still see the labelscar of the older logo. Walmart, 2643 NW 13th St Unit 20, Gainesville, FL 32609 Date of image: 2011 Store still open: no This store originally started out as Woolco before becoming a Walmart. This store has since closed or moved. Walmart, 2050 76 Country Blvd, Branson, MO 65616 Date of image: 2018 Store still open: yes What we have here is a late 70's / early 80's Walmart "Discount City" store which is surprisingly still operating in it's original building.
