The Last Zellers Ever Opened
Alright, lets talk about Zellers. They were a chain of discount department stores in Canada that went out of business in 2013.
Keep in mind, Walmart entered Canada in 1994, and Zellers was starting to get a bad reputation. In the later 2000's, they started to get the reputation of being old, outdated, disorganized, messy, etc.
Basically Canadians saw Zellers in the 2000's the same way that Americans saw Kmart in their later years.
Zellers was a very 90's chain, and many saw it that way. But I want to talk about a store located in Scarborough.
Zellers had four stores located in Scarborough all together. Zellers closed their store on Tapscott Rd in 2007.
It was still under construction in 2009. |
I'm not exactly sure when this store opened but I think it might've been around 2010.
Beautiful looking store ain't it? |
Arguably the nicest looking Zellers location in the entire chain |
Check out that Garden Centre |
I like what they did with the "Z" emblem here, I could see Target using this same exact building and them putting their own "bullseye" symbol there |

It was probably the only Zellers store to have a warehouse ceiling instead of a drop one.

Speaking of Target, this Zellers location closed with the rest of the chain in 2013. It was supposed to become a Target location but they left Canada before that could ever even happen. |
