Quick Look; Vintage drug store building (currently Walgreens), Greene, NY
58 Genesee St, Greene, NY 13778 |
Before Walgreens, this location operated as a Rite Aid location, and an Eckerd before that, and possibly a locally owned drug store even before that |
You wouldn't think that Walgreens would want a small location basically in the middle of nowhere, but apparently they do |
Not to mention that in this entire strip of stores, Walgreens is the only major chain, while all of the other buildings serve as local businesses |

Having seen this over on the Ames page, as I commented there it seemed to be a popular thing when it came to Eckerd (and possibly even before when they were Fays - I can't remember exactly on that one in Rensselaer which name was in use when that happened). What might be more surprising is that the successor chains have kept them, though maybe these are just due to being those small areas, where there isn't much else in the way of options, so they get enough business to be profitable (and either have issues building a larger space, or such a space would cost more and thus make it no longer a profitable option).
