Former Value City, Youngstown, Ohio
1134 Boardman Poland Rd, Boardman, OH 44512
This Value City was originally a Woolco store |
This store is weirdly... wide... I guess you could say |
Value City stores usually weren't this big, also, what's with the 2 separate entrances?
Now, if you know anything about Value City, you know that they operated both department stores & furniture stores under the same name, and it wasn't uncommon to see both types of Value City stores right next to each other.
But that isn't the case with this location |
You see, the entrance to the right of the building has this logo, which was only used for the department stores, and never the furniture stores (image via their old website) |
The entrance to the right has the older Value City logo, which was used on the department stores, and the furniture stores, at the same time |
But it says it right there, clear as day, "department store" |
Looking at the store from a slightly different angle, it looks like Value City originally opened their store on the left side of the building, than later expanded to the right side of the building (taking up whatever was there previously) and instead of remodeling the building to make one central entrance, they just decided to do this instead
Is that actually what happened here? I'm not sure, that's just speculation |
This may-or-may-not have been the largest Value City store in the entire chain |
This specific location has since been subdivided |
Not to mention that this store was pretty much surrounded on all sides by similar competition |
