Linden Plaza, Linden, NJ

Welcome to Plazas, a new series on my blogger. Your familiar with the concept of a "dead mall" correct? Well, what about a "dead plaza"? That's what this series is all about.

We're starting off this new series with the Linden Plaza in Linden, NJ

Starting off from the right side of the plaza, you imminently greeted with Modell's, a chain of sporting goods stores that went out of business in 2020, a year before these photos were taken

Your plaza must be in really bad shape if Dollar Tree out of all people calls it quits

Looking at the Dollar Tree labelscar more closely, it would appear that there's another labelscar behind it, from the previous tenant that was there before Dollar Tree

Upon further observation it would appear that the other labelscar is from Odd-Job closeouts! A small chain of closeout stores that went out of business in 2005 after being acquired by the Amazing Savings store chain.

Next up after Dollar Tree is Launch Trampoline Park

And no, they aren't open anymore either

Interesting design with the glass blocks, though. I wonder what what originally here before launch...

The following photos are from 2012, before Launch moved in

I have no idea what this building originally was

Back to 2021,

A lot of these businesses still have their signs up...

...but it appears that nothing here is open anymore

You can still see the inside of the cafe

Back to 2021;

The Pay Half logo is still on the windows and doors

CSL Plasma, the only operating tenant in this plaza, was originally home to a Dress Barn store

Next to Dress Barn was Dress Bar Women

The same building in 2017

Rainbow closed sometime between 2020 and 2021, leaving all of their signs still up

This Payless Shoes location lasted until the entire company went out of business as a whole

Local tenant Jersey Garden Furniture still has their Going Out Of Business signs on the window even though they've been closed for a year now by this point

Sally Beauty Supply eventually left as well, along with their neighbor tenant ZackaRy's

If your wondering what exactly was "ZackRy's" was

I have no clue

Here's a photo from 2012, when all of these tenants were open

Apparently, "ZackRy's" was an old RadioShack location

And last, but certainly not least...

The main anchor tenant of Linden Plaza

This space here was originally home to a Caldor, which lasted until the chains entire bankruptcy and downfall in 1999. Shortly after, Walmart moved in, and didn't close until they moved to a new supercenter in 2019

I don't know why they left the Subway sign there lol

Photo from when Walmart was still open in 2019

It might not be easy to tell, but the building still has some aspects from Caldor

The old Walmart / Caldor building was torn down in 2022

Funny how times change, isn't it?
