Whats left from Gibson's Discount Center?

Gibson's, the chain of small format, franchisable, discount stores went out long ago, but the reminders of the once prominent chain still remain in some aspects, lets take a look,

1319 S Arkansas Ave, Russellville, AR 72801

Though the building is currently operating as Ace hardware, the original Gibson's "arrow" sign is still in-tact

1811 Fremont Dr, CaƱon City, CO 81212

It doesn't appear that anything has changed at this former Gibson's location since it originally closed, including its original building design at the previously mentioned arrow sign (which will be a pretty common remnant that's been left behind over the years)

805 S 4th St, Chickasha, OK 73018

1 W Main St Shawnee, OK 74801

This building here originally started out as Gibson's but was later used as a flea market (which has since closed)

The sign originally looked like this

Eventually the "Flea Market" part of the sign on the bottom fell off, revealing this, the old Gibson's slogan; "Where You Buy The Best For Less"

This sign on the side of the building was never removed

Where's the store? Well, your looking at it, or at least, what was once the store.

The entire building has since been torn down.

But this road sign still remains

This old Gibson's location is currently operating as... Gibson's

There were over 800 stores at the companies peak, currently there's only 2 left still operating under the Gibson's Discount Center name.

Here's the other location still operating as Gibson's

The store appears to be an ACE Hardware as well. Like ACE, anyone could've franchised their own Gibson's Discount Center back in the day. I'm assuming that this location originally started out as a franchise, but when Gibson's went under, not only did the franchise owner want to keep his business, but keep the Gibson's brand name alive as well, so he partnered with Ace Hardware. Just a guess, though. It's also worth mentioning that store still sells a little bit of everything and not just what you'd find at your regular ACE Hardware store.

Other websites claim of there being 2 other stores still operating as Gibson's Discount Center but those other stores are just Ace Hardware locations with the word "Gibsons" on them, unlike this location, which is pretty much an old Gibson's discount store, mixed with Ace Hardware.

Not only is the triangle sign still in use, but it also proudly promotes the slogan; "Where You Buy The Best For Less"

Bart's Flea Market, 2401 Soldier Springs Rd, Laramie, WY 82070

The original sign and building design is still in-tact. It's also worth noting that this flea market has also since closed.

728 W Crawford St, Clay Center, KS 67432

A lot of people claim this to be the 3rd remaining Gibson's Discount Center location. Personally, if you ask me, I don't consider this to be a current Gibson's Discount location, rather, a former Gibson's location which was later converted into an ACE Hardware franchise that just re-uses the original sign and name. This looks like a typical hardware store that doesn't sell a lot of other miscellaneous products like the Weatherford location (but I could be wrong there's not that many images of this store to go off of and I've never been here in person.)

Also, notice how it's "Gibson", singular, and not "Gibson's", plural.

1111 Indiana Ave, Wichita Falls, TX 76301

Similar to the Brownfield, TX location, this store has seen been torn down and is currently an empty lot.

However, the original Gibson's sign still remains

440 S Bradley Ave, El Dorado, AR 71730

The original "discount center" signage is still up, to this very day

Looking at the side of the building, it's kind of hard to make it out, but if you look closely, you can still see a Gibson's labelscar

This location was previously Fred's Super Dollar before Harbor Freight moved in

Fred Super Dollar, where we re-used the Gibson's slogan- I mean, uhh... "where you buy the best for less"

That's the end for this post.
