Welcome to the Ocean State Job Lot of Warren |
Walking into the store through the breezeway I almost accidently walked right into what were apparently the exit doors, and was immediately greeted with this classic Ames remnant, which is still hanging on to this day. |
This store has a lot of weirdly mismatched floor tiles for some reason |
Original Ames floors? |
The clothing section of the store had wood floors (kind of like what Walmart does). Could these be also original from Ames? I've never seen any other store do this except for Walmart. |
I figured since this is an Ocean State Job Lot store tour that I had to upload something weird that they were selling lol |
I have no idea what these are but I'm assuming that they're also left over from Ames. |
Ok, now this has to be one of the strangest ways I've ever seen things being sold |
They're selling a cloth sheet... Inside of a literal Ziploc plastic bag, with a handwritten description of the item on it, for nine dollars. It's a sheet for an ironing board, I think? It says "Ironing Board" on the bag, despite the fact that this clearly isn't an ironing board. |
An entire wall dedicated to spices |
While at the , I noted what appeared to be spotlights in the ceiling. Job Lot wasn't using them, are this original from Ames? They don't seem like the type of retailer to use these however I could be wrong... |
I was surprised to still see Aunt Jemima branded products and not ones from their new name, Pearl Milling Company |
Here's something I've never seen until this point, Ocean State Job Lot store brand products |
Green counters, possibly original from Ames |
Thanks for reading :)
I'd be damned if I knew what was with the laminated wood flooring, as I've seen it before (at the Clifton Park store). And it is not particularly surprising to see severely mismatching tile in stores like this. Adds to the dirty aesthetic of the closeout store I guess!
ReplyDeleteAll of those orange Rehrigs are indeed ex-Target; the ones with the warning label on the front are simply older. While those checkout counters are an Ames artifact, they are most likely not from this store. That exact style of Ames checkout counters can be seen in stores that aren't former Ames stores.
The Anut Jemima display makes sense - since Ocean State often buys up closeout type items, they were likely getting those older packages to get them out of the way for the new name ones.
ReplyDeleteI see they have an issue there getting the lights right as well. Our store (which was a Grand Union), when they converted to the new LED lighting, it left one aisle that is quite dark, since you are at the intersection of what used to be front to back aisles in the supermarket with a small alcove that ran side to side for frozen stuff. Apparently, however they hooked up the lights didn't leave enough to run them a bit further in one direction or the other, leaving the dark aisle. You can see it here where lights end a bit before the walls.
Any chance that #68 had any spice in it? Vegetable flakes - they haven't stocked those at any of the local stores in quite a while ;)
With the wood floor - Clifton Park was not an Ames (rather Joys), so it might just be something that they use if a replacement section is needed (since they have had boxes of flooring sometimes for sale, so maybe just take some to use as needed?).
